As Director of Product Management, Francois Ajenstat is responsible for product strategy and product planning. Francois combines customer and partner feedback to set the strategic vision and lead the execution of new features and products. Prior to joining Tableau, Francois worked at Microsoft for 10 years in a number of different groups including SQL Server, Office and Trustworthy Computing. Prior to joining Microsoft, Francois worked for Cognos Corporation (acquired by IBM) leading strategic alliances with key industry partners such as IBM, HP, and Microsoft.

Ty Alevizos is a Senior Consultant and Staff Trainer for Tableau Software. Ty joined Tableau in April of 2008 and brought with him 15 years of experience in software sales, design, and release management. Prior to coming to Tableau, Ty held several positions at I-many Inc., WindRiver Systems and Netopia Inc. Ty graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in music composition. @northwestcoder

Evan Alini is a trainer Tableau, focusing on the Desktop line of products, as well as some work with Visual Analytics and Tableau Server. He has been a trainer in the BI space for over 14 years, having started in BI consulting and training with Seagate Software, which then became Crystal Decisions, Business Objects, and finally SAP. He came on board to Tableau this year as a trainer, having realized the benefit of BI for everyone and not just managed by IT anymore. He loves traveling, most all kinds of music, sports, and just recently moved with his wife and 6 year old daughter from Atlanta, GA to Nashville, TN.

Anushka Anand joined Tableau as a Researcher in August 2012 after receiving her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focus has been in information visualization and data mining. At Tableau she is working on innovative improvements in the areas of statistical computation and visualization.

James Baker joined Tableau in 2007 to develop the initial release of Tableau Server and he hasn’t looked back. He is currently a team lead on Tableau’s browser clients, working on both product experience design and internal architecture. You can still find James on the Tableau Forums these days, but he also has two daughters who are even more interesting than Tableau’s passionate user base. James cares deeply about changing lives by crafting wonderful software, and is fascinated by minds both human and artificial. His prior experience ranges from AI to circuit board design. James holds a M.S. in Computer Science from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Washington State University.

Andrew Barker is a Product Consultant at Tableau Software, and serves as a technical resource for the sales team. Andrew holds degrees in economics and international relations, with minors in mathematics and music. He is a classically trained pianist, and has a lovely group of students he teaches when he's not at Tableau.

Jim is the Practice Manager in Professional Services. Jim works with our customer to assign the right consultants with the right job. Prior to that he worked as Sr. Business Consultant and has a background in both Services and Data Management. Jim spend the last 15 years consulting and delivering solutions to customer around various technologies. His experience enables him to bridge both technical and business requirements so the Services team can deliver the right solution. Jim is based out of our Austin, TX location.

Max Berman is a Senior Software Engineer for Tableau. He has been helping build features for the Desktop product since the spring of 2008. Some of the features he has worked on include Tableau Public Desktop and syntax color highlighting for the formula editor. Prior to Tableau, Max spent seven years at FactSet Research Systems developing a charting engine to help people see and understand financial data. Max has a BS in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. When not developing software, Max enjoys running, cooking, and chasing after his one year old.

Eric Berry joined Tableau early this year as a Solution Architect. His focus is getting customers comfortable with their Tableau purchase whether it’s designing insightful dashboards and training them on the many features of Tableau or getting their server up and running quickly for report consumers. He has over 16 years consulting and startup experience in the BI and data warehousing space in many verticals. Eric is a former Tableau customer from the pharmacy/healthcare field and prior to joining Tableau, he was working as an independent contractor in several higher education departments in Cambridge, MA using Hyperion IR & OBIEE.

Curt has been involved in the BI and data warehouse market since the early 1990s. Ross Bunker is a Senior Software Engineer for Tableau Software. Ross has been building software for 15 years. At Tableau since 2005, Ross has contributed multiple features including the calculation engine, hyperlinks and Tableau Server’s server and web client components. Prior to Tableau, Ross spent 6 years at Microsoft leading the development of the query execution engine for SQL Server 7.0 and SQL Server 2000 before moving on to roles at Westside.com and BEA Systems. Ross graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a B.S.E. in Computer Science.

Michael joined Tableau after receiving his Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington, where he specialized in metadata design and management. He is currently on the board of directors of the Seattle Interactive Media Museum (SIMM), a non-profit organization in the process of building a world-class video game museum at the Seattle Center.

Martha is the Spanish LATAM Product Consultant with Tableau Software. She serves as a technical resource for the LATAM sales team, customers and partners. Martha has a BA in Business Administration and a Masters in Marketing. She has over 10 years of financial consulting and her passion for technology and data management inspired her to complete her recent studies and graduate in Database Information Technology, Business System Analyst and Project Management. Martha is eager to continue her education in the data management field and she wishes to deepen her experience in the BI field.

Sujit has been part of Tableau since the beginning of 2012. Sujit has a bachelors and master’s degree in Computer Science and is working in the online team that drives Tableau Public and more. Previously, he worked at early stage startups in the bay area and at Cisco for 9 years. Sujit loves big data, hadoop and the likes and is using open source software at Tableau. Andy Cotgreave has been with Tableau for one year. Prior to that he was a customer at the University of Oxford for four years. He has many hats at Tableau. As a senior product consultant at Tableau he helps new customers solve their problems. As a visual analytics trainer, he develops and teaches training courses that focus on best practices in data visualization. And as someone who just loves Tableau, you can find him at data-related conferences, or popping up as the author of Tableau Public vizzes, or anywhere else where there’s data and Tableau.

Thierry D’Hers is Senior Director of Program Management for Tableau’s engineering team. His group oversees requirement gathering, features definition and functional design as well as evangelization of the product. Prior to this position, Thierry has occupied various roles at Hyperion then more recently in the SQL Server Reporting Services team, Analysis Services team and the Microsoft Performance Point Server team. Thierry has been in the BI software industry for over 18 years and has been led many products incubations at Microsoft (Microsoft Performance Point, Microsoft PowerPivot and PowerView) and Hyperion Solution (Hyperion Business Rule) before he joined Tableau Software. When he is not building teams and designing BI products, Thierry enjoys skiing, mountain climbing, and playing classic guitar.

John is a senior member of the desktop architecture team. He has been in the industry long enough to have worked on the 128k Macintosh. His experience includes working at Palmsource, Be, and Apple. He grew up in Seattle, just miles from Tableau’s headquarters.

He enjoys Ultimate, Volleyball, and running. For the past several years, he has run in the Ragnar Relay, a 185 mile, 24 hour, 12 person relay. The DanceCrew team consists of his family, extended family, and a few adopted relatives for the day. John graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young with both a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science.

Irwin Dolobowsky is a Program Manager at Tableau and is very excited to be attending his first Tableau Custom Conference! Irwin joined Tableau in April 2012 to focus on building up Tableau Server as a world-class enterprise-ready product, focusing on deployment, security, scalability, and availability. Prior to Tableau Irwin worked at Microsoft for almost 10 years, working on products ranging from Data Access APIs to Xbox Payment Services. Now he spends his days (and a few nights) trying to ensure that Tableau Server is easy to deploy, easy to manage, and easy to maintain.

Pat Hanrahan is Tableau Software's Chief Scientist. He is also the CANON Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, where he teaches computer graphics. His current research involves visualization, image synthesis, and graphics systems and architectures. Before joining Stanford he was a faculty member at Princeton. Pat has also worked at Pixar where he developed volume rendering software and was the chief architect of the RenderMan Interface - a protocol that allows modeling programs to describe scenes to high quality rendering programs. Pat has received two Academy Awards for Science and Technology, the Spirit of America Creativity Award, the SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Achievement Award, the SIGGRAPH Stephen A. Coons Award, and the IEEE Visualization Career Award. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Iain is a software engineer with a passion for UI. He has helped shape the Tableau Desktop user experience since version 1.0, and is now Team Lead for the Desktop UI team. As an end user of BI tools in the Insurance industry, to the launch teams of several successful BI products, she has been a thought leader, speaker and promoter of analytics and dashboards for revenue insight for more than 25 years. She has been a senior sales leader for SPSS, Cognos, IBM as well as a channels executive for Hyperion, Applix and Aspect Communications. Dan Huff serves as a technical product expert to the sales team and a wide range of customers in a number of countries. Prior to joining Tableau, Dan was a data geek at university taking every statistics and data-driven economics course possible. Because of this, when he found and applied to Tableau, he knew it was the right fit. Dan enjoys attempting and solving analytics problems customers struggle with while ensuring that the solution is simple and elegant enough for anyone to understand and reproduce. Dan graduated from Western Washington University with degrees in Economics, Political Science, Spanish and a minor in Mathematics.

Matt is a Business Consultant for Professional Services with Tableau, fulfilling the role as a visual analyst using Tableau Products and the steward of Tableau best practices. He helps ensure customers get the most out Tableau by coaching customers in the configuration of the Tableau environment and reports destined for the final audience. With a computer science degree from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, a background in data integration, and a pure fascination of data because of what we can learn from it, Matt is always eager to help his customers visualize and learn from their data.

At Intel, Ryan’s background with data was confined to Microsoft Excel and SQL Server, but since joining Tableau he has greatly expanded his knowledge of ‘Big Data.’ Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon.

Matt Jenks, Product Consultant provides technical support and product expertise to the sales team and customers. He works with a wide variety of clients from all over the U.S. and Canada, helping them find the best ways to utilize Tableau in order to get the most from their data – as well as make their viz’s shine. As such, Matt finds great satisfaction in helping customers, as he measures success in smiles and “wow’s!” Prior to joining Tableau, Matt worked as a Restructuring Consultant in the Los Angeles area, focusing on large corporate bankruptcies during the global economic downturn. Matt is a graduate of Pepperdine University with a degree in Economics and Applied Math, though he oozes Washington Huskies purple and gold.

Robert just joined Tableau as a researcher in the Visual Analysis Group. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Robert has done research on a variety of topics in visualization, including perception and cognition, the visualization of categorical data, and metaphors in visualization. At Tableau, he is involved in research on storytelling in visualization and related topics.

Amanda Laurick (formerly Raymond) is a User Experience Product Designer. She moved across Seattle's Lake Union to Tableau from The Seattle Times, where she was a Visual Journalist. Prior to The Seattle Times, she spent 16 years creating information graphics in newsprint and online. Jock Mackinlay is Tableau Software's Senior Director of Visual Analysis. At Stanford University he pioneered the automatic design of graphical presentations of relational information. He joined Xerox PARC in 1986,where he collaborated with the User Interface Research Group to develop many novel applications of computer graphics for information access,coining the term "Information Visualization." Much of the fruits of this research can be seen in his book, "Readings in Information Visualization: Using Vision to Think." Jock has a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University.

Tyler joined Tableau in 2011 from the University of Washington, where he earned his B.S. and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, studying computational fluid dynamics. Pete is a sales consultant with Tableau Software. He focuses primarily on helping customers in the Public Sector, focusing on the Federal Government as they solve some of their most complex business intelligence (BI) and data visualization needs. Pete has been involved in the BI and data warehouse market since the late 1990s. Molly is part of Tableau’s Training team and has been developing training offerings while also conducting customer and partner courses all over the U.S. – even as far as Singapore! Starting at Tableau in 2009 as a Product Consultant, Molly served as a technical resource for the sales team providing support and training for internal and external audiences. Prior to Tableau Molly worked at Bank of America as a loan specialist responsible for analyzing and auditing data for thousands of outstanding loans. Molly is a local Seattleite and a graduate of the University of Washington Business School.

Robert Morton joined Tableau in the spring of 2008 and quickly discovered his inner data nerd. Robert has worked on interesting challenges including data blending, database security, Data Server and Tableau connectors for Teradata, Hadoop and many more. Prior to Tableau Robert worked on the Intel Atom microprocessor performance team, and before that he played with toys while building the LEGO Mindstorms NXT compiler at National Instruments. Isaac is currently working in the newly formed development team Informatics; which is tasked with understanding, gathering, organizing, and visualizing Tableau's internal data needs and resources as well as advocating internal Tableau usage, training and mentoring. Steve Pellegrin is the Development Manager for Tableau Desktop. He joined the team in 2008 and has guided its growth from three to twenty-four people. In addition to leading the team, Steve has contributed to a number of product features including: parameters, custom tooltips and labels, mark transparency, and relative date filters. Prior to joining Tableau, Steve held managerial and technical leadership positions at Adobe Systems, Intel, Floating Point Systems, Digital Equipment Corporation, and many others. Ross Perez is the Website Marketing Specialist, a role which encompasses SEO, on-page optimization, analytics and project management. A large part of his role involves using Tableau to discover and share insights that help to make the Tableau website more efficient and productive. Previously, Ross was a Product Marketing Specialist, tasked with sharing Tableau’s software with those who had never seen it before. Jeff Pettiross has been dreaming about information design and user experience since he was a kid, spending hours sketching out interface elements for games he would write on his TRS-80. Since then, he has spent the last 20 years designing software and information visualizations in diverse fields including data analysis and visualization, healthcare, project management, desktop software, and engineering. Following his work at Microsoft, two small firms, and in consulting, he has been a user experience designer at Tableau since March 2011.

Dennis joined Tableau with an extensive background in education and technology and serves as lead curriculum developer and trainer for Tableau Server. He has been developing and providing software training in K-12 and university settings for over 10 years. Prior to joining Tableau, Dennis spent several years as a Web Developer for Arizona State University but is glad to be focused on training once again. Dennis also spent many years providing help desk support in the education and business sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration as well as a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

Wilson joined Tableau in 2009, and now he works on providing guidance and advisory work for customers as a Senior Business Consultant. Working with customers directly, his role involves helping customers understand the full potential of Tableau within their organizations and to improve adoption of the tool with clients by means of onsite training, troubleshooting, and performance tuning across the nation. This role involves him directly in the day to day challenges of software adoption, and he enjoys developing best practices around different specific Tableau deployments. Prior to Tableau, Wilson spent time as a financial analyst doing FP&A work at Washington Mutual and is a graduate of University of Washington’s Foster Business school with a focus in Accounting/Finance.

Blake Pusztai is a Tableau veteran, having spent three years as a customer before joining Tableau two years ago. Recently he joined Tableau’s Program Management team, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge having spent the last couple of years in Technical Support. Blake received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Seattle Pacific University and loves finding ways to use technology to improve the lives of others; Tableau is no exception. Evan is primarily responsible for the stewardship of sales force time, efficiency, and effectiveness. He leads the development, implementation, and performance measurement of globally standardized and scalable sales processes at Tableau. Justin Rockwood is a Development Team Lead at Tableau, where he works on the web front end and mobile applications for Tableau Server. Justin joined Tableau in January 2010 and contributed to various parts of Tableau Server, including speed improvements to the web client, making the web client enhanced for mobile browsers, and some of the coolest features that you'll see at this year's conference. Prior to joining Tableau, Justin worked at Microsoft for 6 ½ years on Excel Services and the web version of Excel (Office 365). Justin holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Masters Degree in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Ivo Salmre is the program manager for Tableau’s server products, participating with a merry band of developers in building what will be Tableau’s next generation of server analytics products. Prior to coming to Tableau worked for 14 years at Microsoft in areas spanning developer tools, server and embedded technologies, working both in applied research and product development. Following his time at Microsoft he spent 3 years running his own software consultancy developing on software for energy management and consumer health. Prior to joining Tableau, Charles Schaefer was a simple data worker using Tableau's mapping capabilities to wow his coworkers. Today, he's a veteran expert on Tableau Desktop and Server, using his powers for good as a Sales Consultant for some of the nation's largest companies. Charles recently moved to New York, where he does Table Calculations by day and samples Italian food by night. He's still a Seattle Mariners fan, though, and will never convert to a Yankee supporter.

Scott Sherman is the lead for the Desktop Architecture team. Features he has been responsible for at Tableau include dashboards, the start page, and highlighting and filter actions. In his current role, he is responsible for the architecture that allows desktop functionality to be moved to the browser and mobile versions of Tableau. He brings a wealth of experience in visualization, user interface design, and graphics from his time building browsers for mobile devices, leading a team building a CAD program, and time spent at Visio and Microsoft.

Chris is Tableau's chief development officer and is responsible for product strategy, product design, and engineering. Prior to co-founding Tableau and in addition to his founding another start-up, Chris spent six years researching the analysis and exploration of multidimensional databases at Stanford University. This culminated in research which was the basis for Tableau’s first products. Chris is a co-inventor on five software patents related to information visualization. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University, and a B.S. in computer science from Simon Fraser University.

Chris’s early career as a database programmer helped him see the problems with existing analytical tools. “I remember writing programs that helped people get data directly in just a few minutes, where they used to wait a few weeks. I was astounded by their responses – they were shocked at being able to get the data so quickly and grateful they could do it themselves. I’ve never forgotten that.“

Chris’s favorite part of the conference is the opportunity to meet one-on-one with customers. That, and the pride he takes in his development team on-stage giving rabble-rousing demos of their work.

Scott Tennican is Tableau Software's Senior Statistical Software Engineer. His responsibilities include design and implementation of the recent enhancements to Tableau statistical methods as well as planning the future statistical direction of Tableau. Before returning to graduate school, Scott developed network software resulting in several patents as lead of core development at F5 Networks. After graduate school, Scott developed statistical models for electric grid attached devices at Gridpoint until joining Tableau. At Tableau since 2004, Richard has contributed to multiple features including the Data Server, the Tableau Data Engine, extracts, geocoding and the database connectivity architecture. Prior to Tableau, Richard spent 3 years at Bright Star Technology developing a state-of-the-art speech synthesis engine before moving on to run his own contract software house and then lead the cross-platform client team at Trusted Media Networks. Richard holds a Sc.B. from Dartmouth University and a Sc.M. from Brown University in the field of Mathematics and presented an industrial paper on the Tableau Data Engine at SIGMOD in 2011.

Kelly Wright leads worldwide sales for Tableau Software. Kelly brings 20 years of experience in leadership and sales roles, including four years at Tableau selling the company’s award-winning applications. She has previously held positions at a number of high profile companies, including VP positions at At Hoc, a major venture-backed software company in Silicon Valley, and sales and management positions at Southwestern, Inc., Dale Carnegie and Bank of America. With an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree from Stanford University, Kelly has also spent time at strategic consulting firms Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company, helping executives solve strategic questions about organizational structures, channel conflict, operations, pricing and international expansion.

Matt currently hacks on Tableau Public. Matt first used Tableau during a research project in 2009; he became an addict and had to join the company.
